Disappointing December 29, 2008 I lost interest in this book - although I did persevere to the end - and was so disappointed after the joy of escaping into Going Home and Hopeless Romantic. The plot device whereby you know at the outset that something earth-shattering has happened and then spend the novel unravelling it was a bit of a let-down and few of the characters engaged me.
I loved Going Home so much (the ultimate Christmas comfort read) that my expectations were for this one were perhaps a bit too high. Hope there's another in the pipeline as I think Harriet Evans' writing usually has great humour and interest.
A bit of a drag... December 23, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was my first Harriet Evans book I'd read. Although I enjoyed the book and loved the character Mac, it took me ages to get into. I put the book down for days without picking it up again and nearly gave up. I found the main character Kate annoying and her best friend Zoe even more irritating. The Kate and Mac story dragged on and on and some of the book was fairly dull. I finally got into it once the main event happened and enjoyed it once it picked up. Without giving too much away, I then found what happened to Kate and Zoe's friendship not very believable.
I don't think I'd read another Harriet Evans book after this one turned out to be a disappointment.
harreit does it again.... December 11, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
this novel is by far the best book i have read in a while! i loved it from start to finish! it is definately the best novel by harriet evans, having read her previous novels, going home and a hopeless romantic. This novel is full of suspense, humour, tears and joy! i even cried at the climax of the novel! its gripping from start to finish....you wont be able to put it down! would highly reccomend it. i passed it straight onto my colleague, and she loved it also!

This was quite an emotional read and I have to admit that I did cry in some parts of it. Having said this though, like Hopeless Romantic, some parts dragged on and were quite dull. But unlike Hopeless Romantic, it didn't have a freshness that was in Hopeless Romantic that made me love it. If you do want to read this book, I would recommend that you read Hopeless Romantic first because this book, although okay, wouldn't make you want to read anymore of Harriet Evans' books.
An easy read which is very moving September 24, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is perfect for those days when you want a nice easy, pleasurable read. However, there is also a darker side to the story that is very moving and once revealed makes you look at the story and characters in a whole new light. Me and my mum both really enjoyed this book and would recommend it
