Perfect escapism :) September 6, 2010 Annabel0107 I read Latin and Ancient Greek at Oxford (this is relevant, I promise) so am well versed in the serious musings of Plato, Pindar and Pliny, as well as being a big fan of fictional modern day tomes - recent favourites include Shantaram, the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Pillars of the Earth. Despite this rather academic literary background, I am proud to say that I love books by authors such as Sophie Kinsella, Adele Parks and Louise Bagshawe - escapist reading with a great sense of humour. I like the fact that Sophie's books allow anyone, whether they read a great deal or not at all, to indulge their girly, light-hearted side and to identify with the characters' ups and downs (I particularly enjoyed the opening scene of Twenties Girl when Lara's parents come to visit). Thank you for another very enjoyable read :)
Twenties girl August 30, 2010 Mrs. J. Platt (Cheshire) What a lovely read! I was so sad when i finished this book, it`s a great story with LOL moments and parts of it will make u cry too! Buy it and see, u won`t be disappointed!
Another Triumph August 29, 2010 Clare Crane What can I say - if you love Kinsella this won't disappoint. Great fun read with laugh out loud moments as well as some "hide behind your hands" cringeworthy moments. Brilliant
Great new Sophie Kinsella novel! August 18, 2010 shanlica Well written, you get into the main character's life and feel her frustrations, you also feel for the 'other main character' in this book and (yet again with Sophie Kinsella's novels) you don't want to put it down. Very definitely recommended!
Best one yet! August 15, 2010 PrincessFiona I've read all of Sophie Kinsella's stand alone books and the first 3 Shopaholics. I have to say Becky Bloomwood annoys me somewhat so I was looking forward to reading Lara's story.
Like most people have said here, I wasn't convinced at the start with it being a ghost story, I thought it would just be too far fetched and not very entertaining. And, yes, it is very far fetched, but hugely entertaining as well! I loved that the friendship between Lara and Sadie was the central storyline rather than a bog standard romance, it just gives it another dimension. Some people have said they feel Lara is a slightly duller character than other leading ladies in SK books, but Sadie is a huge personality so the balance is right I feel. I like that there are various levels of storyline here, friendship, romance, mystery.
Overall I think this is possibly the best Sophie Kinsella book yet (although I'm yet to read a few Shopaholics), you grow a real affection for all the characters and by the end I was in tears, a real emotional rollercoaster.
