An excellent example of the genre August 29, 2010 Roman Clodia (London) A series of teenagers are murdered and mutilated after being groomed online - but only Tony Hill believes that these aren't sexually-motivated killings, but something quite different...
I've only ever read one other of the Hill-Jordan series (Beneath the Bleeding) and an earlier book by McDermid (Killing the Shadows) but while I enjoyed this, it does seem to me that the motive for all three of her serial killers was essentially the same. Maybe this is coincidence and the other books are different?
That didn't really spoil the read but it did feel a bit samey by the conclusion. That said, McDermid's police characters come to life well and some of the scenes where parents were told about their children were really moving. I was far less interested in Tony Hill's journey back into his personal past but maybe that's because I haven't read the earlier books and really got to know him.
So overall this is a fast-paced read with an unexpected twist towards the end that I didn't see coming, and is a very good example of the genre.
Excellent - as always August 15, 2010 Jwill Great book ! I did work out the link before the book - but didn't spoil the story. Good story as always.
A great read!! July 28, 2010 Sian Having watched the tv show I decided to try reading the wire in the blood books and I wasn't disappointed! I have enjoyed reading Val mc Dermids books and I think they work well along with the tv show as they give a greater insight into the characters and their past. We learn more about Tony's parents and the reasons for why Tony has such a quirky, strange personality. I absolutely loved this book and I just couldn't put it down! There are plenty of twists and turns that leave you guessing for the whole book and I have to say this is probably my favourite of the Hill/Jordan books I have read.
Wow!! July 7, 2010 Rachael Having read all of Val Mcdermid's books I was sceptical whether this would come up to scratch, but it certainly does, the twists and turns keep you guessing till the last minute and the change in Tony when he realises what he never knew about his father is refreshing and makes you feel this could still run and run a little longer.
It would be interesting to read the follow up to this.
Loved it. June 2, 2010 CD I have read all of Val McDermid's book and have enjoyed them all. But this i think is one of the best. loved it. I know all the characters as i've read all her books in turn so maybe that made it better for me but i really enjoyed the story. Read it in 3 days! I recommend all her books if you like serial killer books and weird phsycho stuff!!
