I must have well over 100 cookery books but never have I had one as good as this.I have always preferred shop cakes to home made cakes, until now!!!The recipes in this book are amazing.They are simple to make, just stick exactly to the instructions and you can't go wrong.If they don't work out for you, try checking your thermostat or if any of your ingredients are out of date
I am teaching my 12 year old grandaughter to cook and she makes these cakes without my help, I just stay with her to advise her if she hits a snag. Even hers come out looking like the ones in the book.They taste divine.
I now have the bug and I am working my way through the book. I made a carrot cake for my husband because he lkes it even though I don't. Correction, didn't until I made the Humming Bird one. Oh boy I am now hooked on carrot cake.
Some of the recipes seem strange but maybe that is why they work so well because they are so different.
Did I mention that I love this book!!!!

This is about the 8th time I've bought this book as I keep giving it as a present to people.
Every recipe I've made so far has been absolutely amazing. Anyone can good good cakes with these recipes and people will compliment you on them for months afterward - amazing!

This book is gorgeous to look at - the photography of the cakes is amazing!
However, when trying out the recipes it is really hit and miss as to whether you get good results. I took heed of comments on here before cooking and followed recipes to the letter... here's what worked and what didn't:
Vanilla cupcakes - MISS! had to increase flour to make this recipe work. First time followed recipe exactly and consistency and taste of cakes was not as expected; overly sugary and appeared to sink in the middle when cooked. I increased the flour to be the same amount as the sugar and these came out much better.
Chocolate cupcakes - MISS! same problem as above.
Rocky road bars - HIT! Recipe made loads more quantity than suggested but absolutely gorgeous!
Frosted brownies - HIT! Again, absolutely amazing.
Frosting - MISS! Quantities out. Had to make a second batch for there to be enough to cover 12 cupcakes.
I probably won't do much more cooking from this book; I think there are better cupcake recipes out there. It strikes me that this is simply a vehicle to advertise the shops (as I live in Manchester it's unlikely I'll get chance to visit!) and is more about style than substance. I'm only pleased I didn't pay full price for the book!!

This is a fab cookbook, I love he Hummingbird bakery and have been there many times so had to have the cookbook. It has so many cupcake ideas as well as cakes, muffins and loads of other lovely goodies. The recipes are very easy to follow and it's full of pictures which make you drool! If you have children or you just have a sweet tooth this is a must, you'll throw the best birthday parties ever if you serve hummingbird goodies!
