What can I say about this book that some of the others who have given poor reviews have not. I was very disappointed, having looked at this book several times before buying and now wished I hadn't.
Two bits that jar not mentioned by other reviewers.
When they translate the bit about Micah being nearly naked in the garden of Gethsemane the main characters claim it was put on the scroll as a reference to writings in the Gospels! How can this be the scroll was written before any of the Gospels.
Also how was a single Monk supposed to have created the hiding place and associated engineering for the scrolls hiding place.
As has already been stated following the dissolution of the monasteries the building wouldn't have been in one place let alone the organ!.
All in all I really struggled to finish this book and got to the point that when main characters were killed off I didn't care.
Finally I must agree with the points that have been made earlier about the toe cringingly embarrassing conversation with the authors at the back of the book.

I read a lot (I mean a lot! It's my personal pleasure after all my work is done!) My tastes are varied, from the most popular writers to the rare find and lesser-known authors. Friends, family, and colleagues come to me when they want a good book for their particular tastes.
I usually have a new recommendation every couple of weeks but, after reading The 13th Apostle three months ago, I have been recommending it nonstop!
This novel is perfect for the reader who seeks excitement, mystery, and suspense. It's a great combination of a conspiracy thriller with some great romance to top it off.
For the history buff, (and I am an aficionado of Biblical and First-century history), this book is a dream come true. I agree with the MyShelf.com reviewer who wrote "This papal mystery is fast-paced and well done. It is also well-researched regarding the history of Jesus and his followers."
The best of the book to me, however, was the uplifting ending. I've read it repeatedly when I needed to hear the words again and to feel the power of the authors' message.
It is hard to imagine that two authors could write a powerfully engaging novel that, at the same time, makes you feel good to be alive. This book has done just that.

I am amazed at the amount of brilliant reviews this book has!!
It's not truly awful (for that you have to read Tom Martin's Pyramid, but I don't advise it), it has the basis of a good plot and is quite entertainingly written up to a point.... And that point is the last chapter which becomes a sermon for the Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam Church, which, no matter what your beliefs are, is unnecessary and somewhat inflammatory.
The mistakes in it and total lack of research (whatever the authors may say) is profoundly irritating and jogs you "out of the story" on occasions far too numerous to list. I shuddered in horror to read in their blog at the back of the book that they have at least "ten more" books in the pipeline, heaven forbid....
This adventure/conspiracy thriller genre is always entertaining and for far better attempts at it read Tom Harper, Paul Sussmann and Steve Berry who as well as moving on cracking plots can actually write a bit too. I will even include Chris Kuzneski in this who, although he's not everyone's cup of tea, writes with a lovely touch of humour and whose novels are always entertaining. Please give these guys a go and don't encourage the Heller's to write anything else....

I along with many people loved the Da Vinci Code and couldn't put it down! I was excited to read the 13th Apostle because I wanted all the action, history and suspense of this genre. Unfortunatly, this book doesn't deliver!
The characters are lifeless and I couldn't identify with them or feel, well, anything for them! The plot is disjointed and it doesn't flow. Chapters end with confusing cliff hangers that you have to re-read to understand.
The most annoying thing was the typical view that Americans have of England. Having been to Weymouth numerous times, it was so obvious that the author's have never even set foot in England! The inaccuracies made me laugh out loud especially when they are on the North Circular which heads straight into London apparently! Having been on that road many times, I seem to remember it going round London not straight though the middle!
It does have some thrilling bits and I did read to the end, so it isn't all bad! Just not a 'read in one go' kind of book.

If you like action, you're going to love this book from start to finish!
I wanted to turn the pages more quickly than I could read. It was that exciting!
I got really involved with the characters. They were just wonderful. Believable, funny, exciting, and very engaging.
The tight, crisp dialogue, exotic locations, action, suspense, and adventure were perfectly balanced with great dialogue and humor.
I've been telling everyone I know about this book.
BTW, (I am convinced I was Sabbie in another life. Now, if I could only find my own Gil Pearce).
Obviously, I loved this book!
