What happens if I push that? June 14, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
As a new user of Reason 4 I have found this book to be very helpful in finding my around. It takes the reader step-by-step through all of the tools available within Reason with lots of examples to underline the information being provided. Where I think the book falls short (and hence the 4 stars) is that it comes from what I call the Fisher-Price school of writing, that is it explains what happens if you push a particular button or control, but not necessarily why. I appreciate that this might make the book huge (it's already over 600 pages), but sometimes it's nice to know why a particular thing happens as well as just knowing that it does. A second issue I have with the book is that a lot of the figures (screen shots) are not always adjacent to where they are being referenced and this means having to flick backwards and forwards a lot when reading. Overall though the book is well written, the author uses a familiar and engaging style that makes the book easy to read and he offers lots of practical advise and suggestions for people learning to use Reason. I would definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a "proper" manual for Reason.
