At Risk January 3, 2009 This is a very short book, so if your looking for a quickie and you like PC then this is a good option for you. It has the usual PC style which I enjoy, and I thought that it was a very good read, it kept me interested with twists and turns. I do not understand why there have been so many negative reviews as it really does not deserve them. I look forward to the next instalment of Winston Garano.
At Risk November 10, 2008 This is the first in Patricia Cornwell's highly critiscized Winston Garano series. I have to agree that it is not up to the standard I would have expected from her amazing Scarpetta series. And in my oppinion 'At Risk's biggest downfall is that it's such a short book. At just under 240 pages and with quite large writing I was instantly sceptical, add that onto the high amount of negative reviews here on amazon I was in two minds whether or not to read the book at all. But I'm currently on book 7 of Cornwell's Scarpetta series and figured that this book couldnt possibly be as bad as everyone had said. Unfortunately it was a disappointment. The characters werent developed enough and it was quite hard for the reader to relate or care for them, the plot was flimsy at best and jumped around far too much to keep track of. I feel that the whole book was rushed a bit too much and if Cornwell put in more effort, developed both the plot and characters some more then she would have another great series on her hands. Unfortunately this doesnt seem to be anywhere near as good as Kay Scarpetta. I will continue this series as the writing is still good and it shows that Cornwell has the talent she just needs to develop things a bit more.
Disappointing November 2, 2008 I own all of Patricia Cornwell books. Some are excellent and some not so great, but they all have a story line easy to follow. In this book, I have been confused by the plot and the characters. I can't say that i enjoyed the read. I was left disappointed.
Absolute crap! September 1, 2008 Having been a huge fan in the past, it was unfortunate that her novels (plots) just started going downhill. I used to enjoy Scarpetta in the beginning but not anymore (and for a few years at least).
A friend lent me "At Risk" - and it confirms my poor opinion of her later work.
"At Risk" is absolute rubbish. Cornwell appears to now favour the present tense which makes reading the story so distracting (and annoying). The plot is ridiculous and the characters are worse!
Purchase at your own risk...
rubbish! July 14, 2008 reading the phone book would of been more exciting! even if you are a big P.C fan as i am, dont waste your money or time!!
