2 out of 5 stars Unimpressed   October 24, 2008
I scanned through this book in about half an hour. I like JSP, and admire what she has done in her career, but I thought this book was truly unworthy of her considerable talents. I felt it was simply a money making exercise.

Anyone over the age of 40 will not learn anything new. You realise after about age 25 that all the face creams advertising a makeover to become Nicole Kidman's twin are lies, and that nothing over the counter will make any difference to the way you look. You begin to see that all those Bimbo beauty analysts behind the counters really believe all that beauty pseudobabble, but now you realise that they also believe in tooth fairies. Having spent years trawling through the London beau monde hairdressing salons in my youth my favourite is a now mobile hairdresser in Gloucestershire. And not putting my age on my CV will really not fool anyone when I tell them I read Chemistry at Cambridge in the mid 70s. And as for including recipes - well, pleeeeease.....!!

I heard Esther Rantzen on Marcus Brigstocke's programme a couple of days ago and although not a fan, I couldn't help thinking how much more interesting her take on JSP's idea would be and how in her case, I really would learn something new. I'm sure she wouldn't insult our intelligence by including recipes!

Thank god I read the book in Waterstones and chose not to buy!

5 out of 5 stars So it's not just me....Thank F*** for that!   August 25, 2008

It's about time! After a deluge of tepid, psycho-babble tomes, along comes a cogent, refreshing slab of common sense. I was beginning to think it was just me getting cantankerous at 36. It's like having a wise, eccentric auntie tell you what you already-suspect-you-might-be-starting-to-almost-realise; but kicking you up the arse as she does it!
Read it in one sitting. So gripped I didn't even get round to putting my feet up, or turning on the 'proper' reading light. Who cares? As Janet says, 'rules are made to be broken! Wahey! Thanks Janet!

4 out of 5 stars Good fun read   August 22, 2008
I was attracted to this book by the design and layout which is really interesting. It is a kick up the ass for anyone feeling downtrodden and also provides cookery tips - what more could you ask for!

3 out of 5 stars An ok light hearted read   August 5, 2008

I bought this book for a bit of light holiday reading and was attracted by the title and write up as I thought it would be quite a funny book. I have mixed views about it. It does offer some no nonsense viewpoints which act as a good reminder about certain things but then seemed to trail off into some very strange parts about food exercise etc. that didn't seem to fit with the rest of the book and were very basic. Ok for a light read but not as good or as funny as I hoped it would be.

1 out of 5 stars Absolute Rubbish   July 28, 2008

This was the most boring book I have ever read, in fact I did not finish the book because it became so boring.
Janet Street Porter is an intelligent women however this does not show in this book.
The contents of this book we know already, nothing new.
