A lovely little dip in book August 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this as a jokey gift for someone who had given me one of the "Is It Just Me" books. I sneaked a read before passing it on (hands up anyone who doesn't do this) and was charmed. It's a lovely little A-Z of things that make life a little bit better. You won't agree with all the selections, but it's an eclectic mix. Steve Stack has his finger on the pulse - Monkey, the BBC's Beijing Olympics hero is one of the selections. So are Internet communities which is heartening news for those of us who enjoy justifying our participation in them. A smashing gift for anyone who is cynical and apt to offer a jaded view of things. This won't make you laugh out loud, but it will make you smile.
Its only what you already know August 10, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'd read the reviews and thought this was going to be a real treat. I looked forward to the delivery, unfortunately, I was not expecting to read all about the joys of (and the book is in A-Z format) Aardvaarks; allotments, advent calendars, etc, etc, right through to Zebedee the chap who went fishing with Jesus.
Of course, its not all a load of rubbish, I too, like the author, like a nap or a nice cup of tea, but would not write a book extolling their virtues(silly me!).
Life is great and sometimes you do need reminding of that, its true, but somehow this book made me feel a bit stupid just for buying it, as if I needed a book to remind me that joy can be cultivated in your own mind.
Buy it only if you cannot think of one thing that makes you smile.
The antidote to a cynical world November 8, 2007 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
I brought it as a gift for a cynical friend and ended up reading it myself. I've now had to buy another copy!
A book guaranteed to make you smile November 4, 2007 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I've been randomly dipping into this book over the past few days and on every reading it has brought a smile to my face. Steve Stack's collection is full of all the simple, and often silly, things in life that can't fail to make you happy. The perfect antidote for the terminally miserable. Highly recommended reading for anyone who's had a bad day.
the perfect toilet book November 4, 2007 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
This book has proved the perfect medicine for my grumpy mood this week. It manages to delight and inspire without ever resorting to sentimentality. It deserves to become a bestseller. I have been chuckling away while flicking through its pages. It will have pride of place in my toilet library.
