A Great Follow Up August 18, 2008 The long-awaited (by me anyway) sequel to Pomegranate Soup takes you back to Ballinacroagh and the Aminpour sisters' Babylon Cafe. All the familiar characters are still there including my favourite Dervla, who spends most of her life peering out from behind her net curtains at what the sisters are up to.
Marjan is still in charge of the cafe, but her sisters Bahar and Layla have a couple of their own secrets and are starting to show their independence. Marjan realises that she must allow them to make their own mistakes in the world. Marjan meets the handsome Julian and starts to find time for herself.
Marjan also gets involved with the mysterious girl that her friend Estelle saves from drowning - much to Dervla's annoyance - she rues to get to the bottom of the mystery and cause as much trouble for the sisters as possible.
Like Pomegranate Soup, this novel contains loads of mouthwatering food descriptions, and the writing is warming and comfortable. I did feel that the novel could have been longer, I would have loved to find out a bit more of some of the characters - but room for another in the series I hope!
