can skip this one if you like... July 23, 2008 dont get me wrong, i love john edward to bits. had read his 1st book "one last time" which was BRILLIANT!! hence continued with "crossing over" expecting the same oomph which sadly did not happened :(
however, i do shed buckets while reading the last section of the book on 9/11 WTC incident. it was heart wrenching.
otherwise, if you are like me who easily get bored, you might want to skip "crossing over" and move on to "afterlife" which i am currently reading and oomphing every page of it :)
Good August 29, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was a good book, it was nice to see some of the behind the scenes stuff with tv. John is very open with sharing his experiences although at times i feel it was slightly hard to follow some passages in the book. That being said, the book was a great read, and i would read John Edward (look i said it without the 's' at the end) again. :)
Psychic, schmychic! May 12, 2006 4 out of 10 found this review helpful
At first, I was very impressed with John Edward's performances on Living TV, so I bought this book. Then I chanced across the website of Ian Rowland and learned about cold reading. Cold reading is a technique used by "psychics" to surreptitiously extract vital info from their "subjects" then feed it back to make it seem like they're reading minds/talking with the dead/whatever.
I'm not a complete cynic, I do believe that some low level of psychic (perhaps, more properly, empathic) abilities exist in some people. But I've always had a problem with those who claim to talk to the dead, and while Edward seems gifted on the surface, I do have a problem with someone who can only get the first letter of a dead person's name during a "communication" with the other side.
I'd be much more impressed (and less likely to shout "cold reading!") if Edwards could say something like, "I'm getting a message from Charles Duncan Jones, he's Emily's grandfather and he wants Emily to know that his gold watch is buried beneath the elm tree in his old garden." Now wouldn't that be more impressive than "I'm getting a C, an older male figure. Does that mean anything to anyone?"
It's not a bad book, but I'm not so sure about the premise it's built on ...
Too Dry - entertaining, but limited February 4, 2004 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
John is a good writer, and communicates well on this side besides the other side! What I think is lacking is a broader scope of experiences. What other authors, like Tiffany Snow and Sylvia Browne are doing, is touching many aspects and challenging the reader to do the same, BESIDES telling the personal experiences. Too often, John just tells his own stories, which are entertaining, but limited. But, this book I like better than his other one, "after life," which is more of the same and even dryer than this one.
absolutely awesome, a saint!! November 14, 2003 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
I am in awe of john edward. Anyone who reads this book will realise how silly it is to be sceptic about life continuing after death. This book covers his television show 'crossing over' and is truly phenomenal. John Edwards amazing powers are a gift to him and I don't think many people will be able to do what he does, but there is hope for us all. I believe this life is only the beginning of a truly spectacular journey, which this book helps us to understand. Sceptics must be so gullible to believe all the sceptical propaganda. Buy this book if you have an open mind and are willing to connect with a deeper meaning to life.
