Compelling reading July 8, 2008 This true story of a terrible childhood makes compelling reading. I am amazed that Caspar Walsh survived it all and has come through it without bitterness. The book is beautifully written, shocking and uncomfortable to read at times but I couldn't put it down and would thoroughly recommend it.
the real deal June 20, 2008 A deeply impressive book with well-rounded and articulate characters. Reads like good fiction and is all the more horrific, at times, for it. There is a brutal honesty that sometimes struck me as being unnecessary. However, much of the book is obviously born out of therapy and what you get is the real deal. Highly recommended. Deserves a wide readership.
Brutally honest May 22, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Brutally honest (which makes a change) biography in which Casper, without frills, writes about his life journey that includes drugs and incarceration. Having a father whom he loves deeply, despite leading Casper astray at such an early age. It is an insightful, painful at times, but also uplifting piece of work, written without being sentimental, having self pity or excuses for his life to date. The book shows that despite having such a 'loving' father, a son can find a way through the morass to find an acceptable self. If only all biographies (no names!) could be as well written and honest.
Not just another autobiography! May 19, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an honest insight into the authors life. It is an inspiring, challenging and gripping read. Written in a superb manner which holds your attention right down to the last word. I could write an essay on this book but if you purchase it I can guarantee it will be a book well worth reading. You won't be able to put it down until it is finished! Well done Caspar Walsh!
