5 out of 5 stars A great intro to ancient history for children and adults   April 21, 2000

I got this book for my seven-year old but found it fascinating myself. A wide range of "ancient empires" are discussed. The text is clear and informative and is backed up by excellent colour pictures. The civilisations discussed range from the first peoples of the Middle East to the fall of the Roman Empire, with both military and domestic history included. Whilst the book is rather euro/middle east-centred, civilisations in the Americas, China, India and Japan are also included. If you or your children enjoy the Microsoft computer game "Age of Empires" then this book will give you fascinating background information on the various empires which are involved in that game.I look forward to seeing the rest of the books in this series.
