Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Superb new work   April 20, 2008
This is a most thoughtful book, sensitively written by a new author, Jamie Whittle, who has a rich feel for Scotland, his heritage, the importance of the environment and the challenges for us all, wherever we are, in facing up to what it will take to live sustainably. His inter-weaving of a personal journey on his local river, with his personal journey as a young man in the world and his sharing of deep insights into the way we are and the history of his local area, results in an inspiring work.

5 out of 5 stars Deep ecology from an indigenous Scot   December 5, 2007
4 out of 4 found this review helpful

Never let it be said that deep ecology is a Californian import to Scotland. Here, in the footsteps of such Scots as John Muir and Nan Shepherd, is a sharing of the meaning of a river by somebody who grew up along its banks and, in this book, walks them all the way to the source and canoes back down again. "Findhorn" has come to mean many magical things to many people. Here is the deep magic of the Earth, emerging from the nature of this place, and captured by the love that Jamie Whittle has cherished into the crafting of this fine work that will please the ecologist and the poet in equal measure.

5 out of 5 stars A beautiful book about the most beautiful river in Scotland   November 28, 2007
3 out of 3 found this review helpful

A long overdue addition to the small body of literature about this most wild, changeable of Scottish rivers and the magical landscape it has created along its passage to the sea. A fine piece of travel writing in its own right it is sensitively illustrated by Jo Darling.
Nb It is PAPERBACK not as erroneously stated at the time of writing this: 'Leatherbound.'
