5 out of 5 stars The Best Biology Textbook   May 4, 2008
This is without a doubt the best AS and A level biology textbook i have come across. certainly could'nt have got my A grade without it!

5 out of 5 stars Top grades!   June 6, 2006

This is a great biology text book in a very modern style. Concepts are presented as a complete double spread with clear diagrams and quality explanations.

To a teacher this gives the opportunity to work in manageable chunks of work that the students can keep pace with. For the student this makes referencing and revision easy to plan and carry out.

As this is a general biology text remember to check the publishers website to see which concepts are required for your exam board!

5 out of 5 stars As already said, the BEST Biology textbook   April 1, 2006

It's already been said, but it needs to be emphisized more: this is THE biology textbook. You need this, and you need no other.

M. Kent is, like Jim Clark (Calculations in AS / A Level Chemistry), Michael Clugston and Rosalind Flemming (Advanced Chemistry), one of those rare authors who seem to actually know, and care for, what they're talking about.

So, buy the book already! :)

Presentation: EXCELLENT, this is a very nice, colorful book. Chapters are clearly divided up, and each spread of 2 pages aims to cover one aspect of each chapter. The book is very well structured and has exam practice questions after each section, as well as questions on each page, aimed at getting you to think a bit further.

Content: Brilliant! Has everything required for, i would say, all alevel courses. If youre following AQA, then it even covers every one of the possible options unit at A2. Explanations are clear and very detailed, giving you more of an understanding than just knowledge. Each little section of each chapter starts with an introduction, putting into perspective why the information contained is relevant.

My only complaints: i find certain concepts difficult to get my head round, and 90% of the time this book really helps. It's just occasionaly ive been taught something, not understood it, read my book, still not understood it. That said, everyone understands things in different ways and perhaps i just didnt twig? Also, while certain sections go into immense, rich detail, others shy off a little- only really the explaination of how a nerve impulse works and the minute details of respiration.

OVERALL: excelent book, worth the money, great study aid- is NOT a textbook like the ones you get in school- this book could much more easily be used for self-study!! buy it!
