Another crackin read November 18, 2008 Great read. Just as enjoyable as Morgan's other books. Only one complaint, got to the end, put the book down and picked up what I thought was the next book in the series, "Thirteen". Some what frustrated to find that it was not the sequel but the same damn book with a different name from a different publisher. Oh bother to say the least!
Back on form October 16, 2008 Richard Morgan is back on form with this book set in the near future. He is a consistently excellent writer (I did not like however "Market Forces", that aside....)with well developed character storylines. You get to like the central character much as in the unrelated previous novels such as Altered Carbon. A consistent page turner and I cant wait for the next book which is how it should be. As good as Banks with his Culture stories. Fantastic!
Incredible ... breathtaking August 26, 2008 No wonder this book won the Arthur C Clarke Book of the Year award ... it is visionary, believable and compelling. I've read this twice in paperback and have now ordered the hardback (not a usual progression for me ... but I couldn't resist having a copy on my shelf that won't fall apart with successive readings. Anyone who enjoyed the Altered Carbon trilogy will be thrilled.
A riveting novel, and an excellent insight into the future August 25, 2008 The future painted by Morgan in Black Man is not so much a 'possible' future, as it is a 'very likely' one: this is what made this novel a riveting read, one of those hard-to-put-down books, you just MUST see where it leads to.
The plot is very finely twisted, the dialogues are very credible and the characters are most definitely "real" - with flaws and positives and defects: no black and white here, but a very realistic, credible series of shades of gray.
But the real strenght of Morgan's novel is this sense that the future he depicts is where our "twisted," feminised, politicised world is headfast hurling towards, with no one really bothering to care about...
A really strong recommended read, and a bet, if you are a male reader, that you'll come out wishing you were a 'thirteen' :-)

Why is there no mention on the Amazon page that this is THE SAME BOOK as BLack Man.... I'm just about to read what I thought was a follow up and find I've already read this.... It's a good book, but surely Amazon need to indicate this is a reprint with a different title...!!!
