Waste of Money May 20, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book contains absolutely no new material. It is nothing more than a way of making a few quick bucks. In comparison to other Eberron material this is an atrocious book (i use the word "book" in its loosest sense). Save yourself some money and get the far more comprehensive "Players Guide to Eberron", after all it seems that the Eberron Survival Guide is merely a brief synopsis of this far superior book.
Your Eberron library is complete without this title April 5, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I don't write book reviews. This is my first one. So I hope you can appreciate how truly disappointed I am in this book by the fact that I'm writing this review.
My first disappointment is the size of the book. At 64 pages (63 if you discount the full page advert) it hardly justifies a hardcover. In fact, the thickness of the front and back cover combined is greater than the thickness of the pages.
Another gripe is the complete lack of written content or new artwork. The book is very graphic heavy with graphical content occupying 50-75% of the page layout. The written content is brief and seems more appropriate for a promotional flyer than a published book.
It doesn't stop there I'm afraid. The editing is atrocious. I haven't read the book all the way through yet but from skimming it I've found an incomplete sentence in the section on Karrnath (page 43). It ends with the following incomplete sentence; "The entire nation is under martial law, despite the progressive attitudes Kaius sometimes " ... Sometimes what? Its not continued on the next page. Very poor. It reminds me of the kind of editing errors Wizards lets slip in their Eberron novels.
Finally, and more obviously, the cover colour. The red text on grey/silver background provides poor contrast and stresses the eye. Especially when reading the text written on the spine of the book.
I'm a big fan of Eberron. The setting truly is brilliant, but I feel that this is yet another mistake in a list of recent errors made by Wizards of the Coast (and I'm not talking about 4th edition... the jury is still out on that one).
Bottom line, if your into Eberron your library is complete without this title. If your new to Eberron most all of the content in this book is available online. Seriously, google "Eberron" and do a little digging. It's all there.
