Upping the stakes November 27, 2008
Following on from the first instalment, Beyond the Shadows, Shadow's Edge continues this trilogy and raises the stakes quite considerably. Having been a little ambivalent about the first book, enjoying the concept and the writing but finding it a little generic and unevenly paced, I genuinely enjoyed this novel and felt it didn't suffer from the difficult 2nd book in a trilogy problem. The characters are more developed and it's a much more consistently paced book that the original (which i had enjoyed as well) and am definitely looking forward to reading the third of the series. I don't think the Night Angel series will be considered one of the genre classics of the future. It may not make it into the read again category either. HOWEVER, don't let this put you off - these books are enjoyable, invigorating and with some troubling concepts especially early on, not to be taken too lightly.
Definitely a pleasureable read - made my 14 hour flight from argentina to London wizz by!
