Read this while avoiding work... January 7, 2009 I'm old enough to remember the original fighting fantasy books so when I was given this I was very eager to read it. It feels like a natural progression of a book that I should be reading at my tender age and experience. Interspersed between the role-playing are observations from someone who understands and has obviously experienced the agony of mind numbing office politics, day-to-day battles avoiding work and brown nosing of management. Some of it read like a warped version of my very real life. After you read the Office Bestiary at the back of the book you'll never see your co-workers in the same light. Top-notch writing! I give it ten out of 5 stars.
Literally fantastic. November 21, 2008 Firstly, don't be put off by thinking this is a swords-and-sandals-and-sorcery book! Although it's a loving pastiche of those 1980s choose-you-own-adventure books, it's really a comic tale of a ludicrous day at the office. If you've ever temped, or felt like a div at work, you'll feel at home here.
But, it is also a proper choose-your-own-adventure, and a surprisingly satisfying one too. Many "fun" books like this are destined to end up in the loo but I did my copy the honour of reading it in bed and was captivated and amused in equal measures.
A great present idea.
Totes the best book I've read in a long time!!! November 20, 2008 I usually find it difficult to read books from start to finish but this is definitely a winner! It's intelligently funny and literally never a dull moment. It portrays the different characters within every office accurately but also hilariously! Every office has a Goblin and a needy dancer - don't they?! Genius! Absolute quality! Have not laughed this much whilst reading a book in my entire life! Buy it, read it then buy one for anyone you know who has a sense of humour for Christmas! Well worth it!
Serious Fun! October 2, 2008 This was recommended by a friend, and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
It is unlike anything else I've seen on bookshelves in quite a while and the adventure style of the book really works. It is packed with sharp wit alongside rich characters - I've even caught people looking at me on the tube in the morning as I've been reading it and chuckling along!
This book stands out as a genuinely entertaining read - I highly recommend it!
Laugh out loud funny October 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Got this as a present from my brother and, to be honest, had rather low expectations, which was rather unfair.
This is a genuinely hilarious story wrapped up in a Fighting Fantasy-style adventure book. There's some great gags (which I'll be passing off as mine at the office) and the adventure is surprisingly gripping.
Easily the funniest thing I've read all year. If I know you, you'll be getting this for Christmas.
