Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Good, but not Moore at his best   June 30, 2001
5 out of 6 found this review helpful

The hallmark of Moore's novels is tension, uneasiness of what is about to happen. In this story of a vulnerable young girl in the employment of a nebulous older business women and her husband, the plot unfolds slowly. Nothing much happens at first and the main action doesn't kick in until later in the book. The character of Bernard the humble millionaire is well crafted with all his failings and flaws. I love Moores work but felt slightly let down by this one as the whole thing seemed a little too stage mananged. Don't take this as a negative. I was immersed with the plot and could not put it down. Not his best but worthwhile all the same.
