Didn't like this book at all and it has, unfortunately, become one of the few books that I've left unfinished.
I was recommended the book by a friend who loaned me her copy (thank goodness I didn't spend any money on it) and keenly started it straight away. However, a third of the way through I put it down and admit that it defeated me, because NOTHING HAPPENS!
I have never read a more boring book - the premise of being a thriller is misleading, unless its all saved for a final breathless chapter in which case then is deceptive marketing.
The characters (especially Maggie) are tedious at best and the villians single-tiered. I had no understanding what was happening as we jumped from present day to 'flashback' memory; from America to England and from Maggie's story to that of her 1st husband (dead) to second husband (dead) to third husband (possibly dead, couldn't be bothered to find out). Was there a chain of thought with this novel.... doubt it?
Apparently Paterson has written some other great books, which is partly how this one was sold to me - well, I'll never find out 'coz I won't be picking another of his books up again!

This is the first book of James Paterson I have read and I did not think much of it at all. I think he should have done some research before putting into his book. I think the ending was so far fetched and stupid. Like the police would just take it as Will was dead and not do tests to make sure it was him. And also the very ending where she went to see him and then at the end it says she understood what he meant but never actually told what it meant that was the worse part.
I read this book thinking I would get some conclusion to why his characterization of Maggie changed half way into this book.
Over all this was the first book of James Paterson's I have read and it is defiantly the last.

I'D LIKE TO WRITE A REVIEW FOR ALL OF HIS BOOKS I HAVE READ BUT THERE ARE TOO MANY SO I WILL WRITE A GENERAL REVIEW. hide and seek was a thriller from the start! I couldnt put it down i received my copy on monday and had it read by wednesday evening. the lead chracter maggie keeps you hooked she has had a rough ride to start of her life but makes herself into a multimillion pound singer.
she feels she has recovered from the murder of her first husband by her own hands! Then she falls in love again only for that to end in tradgedy We her about Will through and story and learn to both love and hate him intensley he is truly crazy,scary and evil. But Maggie falls for him and marries her true love. But Maybe now this is the worst part of her life. As she fights for her freedom after being charged with wills murder but did she do it? The main thing maggie has in her life through all this is her two children and best friend Barry. Its a must read!!!
