Honestly Astonishing September 13, 2008 This is one of the most captivating and brilliant books I have ever read. It finishes the saga perfectly, and when I reached the, fascinating, oh-so-wonderful finish I almost cried. Truly a fantastic book, that rounds off all the loose ends, something that many last-of-series books fail to do. Buy it now. you won't be disappointed.
Fantastic Finale February 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
WOW!! What a finish!
The whole series gripped me from start to finish twisting and turning and leaving me begging for more; and this book is no different.
This ending is so well plotted, tying loose ends and satifying unanswered questions. The way Darren changes his own destiny -to the outrage of Des Tiny!- was so brilliant even is a little predictable. I love how Evanna plays a part too and the ending with Darren is superbly written! But I wont reveal too much. I will only say......Darren Shan; this series gave me hours of reading enjoyment and the finale is no exception. Bravo! A truly inspirational series!
Perfectly ended January 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was a little apprehensive about reading this book - I started reading this series when the books first came out (2002 I think) when I was 12 and recently returned to it to read the last six books, which I had for some reason never got around to reading back then - so I was hopeing after over five years of reading, it would end well. I can happily say that it did!
Not only a brilliant ending (and the only ending there ever could have been really), but the book itself is one of the best in the series, too! Great ending to a great saga.
What??? July 24, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I absolutely loved the saga of darren shan and this last book definately let it down. To have read all the way to be told that none of it happened and that the people he met and became friends with no longer would know who he was or anything annoyed me in some way. and i wish that instead of steve killing darren, steve should of killed des tiny, or as said before, darren should have just said NO. or when Evanna pulls him from the lake of souls, i thought he would be allowed back to the present. and also with des tiny telling him he watched over both of them, its like any of the choices darren made were never his own. plus there are many unanswered questions. i definately expected a lot more. i feel the author just wanted to get the story finshed and out of the way. NEEDS RE-WRITING AND RELEASING!!!

With this book, we come to the end of the CIRQUE DU FREAK series by Darren Shan, the one we have been waiting for and dreading. Now the Vampire Prince must face his archenemy, Steve Leopard. It is a complex and difficult problem -- He will be dead if he loses and damned if he wins. One of them will die -- the other will become the Lord of the Shadows and destroy the world. Vampire or Vampaneze; who will win? Can Darren cheat destiny? The action is fast and non-stop The complex plot will keep you guessing until the very last page. The story is full of violence with blood and gore. Some of the characters are human, but most are not, and some are very frightening, but most are loyal, and fierce.
Kids can't seem to get enough of Shan's brand of compelling, scary stories, but they also address some serious issues, and show the importance of friendship and sticking to your moral and ethical standards. It seems to me to be a bit too frightening for kids ten years old and under, but maybe just the thing for older teens that are reluctant readers. It's an ongoing story that you might want to start reading with volume one and work your way through the series, but this one has enough background information that you can enjoy it by itself.
