A worthwhile investment... June 21, 2004 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
As the title suggests, it starts with the basic principles of pathology and then goes through each system, covering enough detail without being too overbearing. There are loads of good quality colour photos, with the compulsory gory allocation a pathology book has to have! The text not only covers pathological details but relevant physiology, aetiology and clinical features. It's useful throughout medical school life and is definitely one to recommend. Overall, a worthwhile investment!
A must have for a Sheffield Medical Undergraduate! March 31, 2004 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
A very detailed and well structured text on pathology. Written by the professor of pathology at Sheffield - it pretty much covers everything on the pathology curriculum here. The introductory chapters are also very useful and include such topics as the causation of disease etc. Very descriptive and very well written. You will need to supplement this with a good clinical medicine book (such as kumar and clark) to simplify things a little!!
Not enough February 9, 2004 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
Although the cover is nice, that's where this books' charms end. I would recommend Robbins Basic Pathology (7th. ed.) by Kumar, Cotran, Robbins. It's an easier read, has what you need, and organized in a much better way. Tried Robbins Pathology, which is too much really. Trust me, Basic Pathology is just right.
An essential Pathology book March 28, 2003 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I was amazed by this book. It enables a detailed, and often monotonous, subject to come alive and become interesting. With full colour pictures, this book brings pathology to life and is essential to all medical students who really want to know pathology. It manages to strike the balance between detailed knowledge and overload, and doesn't manage to bore the reader. I strongly recommend this book as an adjunct to your lecture notes.

as a third year medical student, i found that on the whole, this book was not that useful. although it is fairly accurate and complete in certain areas, some topics are very superficially covered.
