5 out of 5 stars Loved This Book!!!!!   June 17, 2008
One of the best books to read as a mum who may from time to time doubt themselves. It is somehow reassuring to see what you are feeling in black and white. Internet sites are a great source of information, but sometimes you may feel silly to discuss things. Gina touches on them all. It also has helped me understand my relationship with my mum and my husbands relationship with his mum. Thanks again Gina

5 out of 5 stars I wish I'd read this before having a child   April 4, 2008
I found this book really touching. I read it from cover to cover in one night and will definitely re read it. Its very well written and helped me understand some of the issues I faced in the first year of motherhood. It was also very moving hearing about the author's own childhood experience. I felt it gave a balanced, sensible view of motherhood and parenting. I can't stress enough how much I enjoyed this book.

5 out of 5 stars A reassuring and inspiring read for mothers   March 14, 2008
All mothers ask themselves at some time am I doing a good job? This book examines why mothers feel compelled to question themselves and tells the true story of many mothers while examining the many sides of being a a mother and the many influences on both mother and child. I enjoyed reading true life stories form Gina who has known many mothers and situations in the past. This book brings all that exposure together tracking the many facets of motherhood to conclude that the answer to the question am I a good or bad mother - unanswerable.
Enjoyable reading that Im sure my mother will enjoy the read now Ive passed it on and Im sure other mothers will too. Using this platform to slag off Gina Ford and her methods is stupid as this book doesn't advocate any right or wrong way of mothering it merely examines the roles of motherhood and tells and very moving story of Ginas own childhood and mother experiences.

3 out of 5 stars A mixed bag   March 9, 2008
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

This book is a combination of a touching personal memoire of Gina Ford's relationship with her mother and a range of personal anecdotes from mothers and information from various social and medical studies. It reads as though written by two authors with the personal sections very much in one style and the information from published studies in another. Although both halves of the book are interesting, they make slightly strange bedfellows and the style is stilted by switching from one to the other throughout the book.

5 out of 5 stars comforting and reassuring   February 11, 2008
This book is a wonderful read, the author honestly reflects on her own relationship with her mother and how she shaped her life. The author also shares the stories of mothers she has worked with and I felt I could really identify with them, leaving me feeling less isolated and more normal! Although the author herself isn't a mother she displays amazing intuition to many of the issues and conflicts mothers battle with, such as dealing with inlaws to making choices on how feed your baby. It's very refreshing to hear from someone looking in from the outside.I would recommend this as a funny, refreshing and reflective read for all mums.
