4 out of 5 stars what it says on the tin?   April 16, 2006

Well no, its not exactly as the title says. However it does provide a good account of many aspects of training and marine life whilst also giving a reasonable over view of the history and organisation of the RM. Above all its enjoyable worth a read to a potential RM candidate or interested party.

4 out of 5 stars Tell it to the Marines   December 21, 2005

An informative book does not give the full picture. If you really want an alternative perspective read 'Undefeated' by former fellow Marine Commando Terry Marsh. He writes about the parts not found in the brochures.

5 out of 5 stars Great, shame about the flaw...   September 25, 2005

Im sure this is a great video, shame about the cover though.
It seems they have shown a marine with his beret incorrect- you see the cap badge is ALWAYS over the left eye, unlike the right eye shown. LOL. This was probably so we could see it, but they should have just inverted the picture.... Anyway, Im majorily digressing commenting on the graphics!
Buy it - RM are legends.

5 out of 5 stars An informative read for both would be Officers and Marines   August 14, 2002

I feel the book is a must for anyone wanting to find out more about the Marines, than the average book will tell you. It has a vast section on different qualifications, postings and an in deapth insite into the special forces such as the ML (Mountian Leader)and SBS (Special Boat Service).

I think the Book is well set out and unlike others, which I feel is for the best, has only a small section on past conflicts where the Marines have been present.

The comparisons between the Paras and the Marines are clearly pointed out, the underlying factor being that all Marines (apart from the band) are Commando trained, which as you can find out by reading the book means they have to undergo the mentally and physically demanding Commando week.

The book goes into deapth on the training aspects and takes you through what to expect at the PRMC or POC, and therefore what training is expected to get you through the rigorous selection process.

It also also talks about the similarities and differences between the SBS and their Army equivlent, the SAS, and their feuding rivalries stopping them becoming a joint force.

Whether or not you are thinking about joining the Marines, this book is a helpfull insight into the most renowned and professional unit in the World, The Royal Marine Commandos.

4 out of 5 stars hmmmmmmmmm!!!!   August 13, 2002

This is a great book with loads of information regarding the special forces around the world, but the title is not what is says!!! there is a little bit of information about what the training and standard of living is like but not alot. although this book's title misses the point it is still worth buying.
