5 out of 5 stars Superb sequel...   July 29, 2008
J R ward had alot to follow after Dark Lover, and boy did she ever do well with Lover Eternal. Rhage is beautifully written - dark tormented and has been left cursed for centuries for his lack of control. Mary has a touching back story which is written in a way that makes you really feel for her but please note though, at some points in the book you may want to slap her :o).

This is a gripping, well thought out book that will keep engaged throughout. I have read all the books in the Black Dagger Brotherhood and while this book is eclipsed by some of the others in the series, it's still superior to most paranormal romance books out there. J R Ward has created a series so good that... I can't even finsh that sentence. She is the best Vamp writer I have found.

5 out of 5 stars My favourite of the series   June 4, 2008
I read this book first as Dark Lover was not available at my local bookstore. After reading this I immeadietly ordered the rest of the series and have not been dissapointed yet, though this remains my favourite.

I think that the books can be read as individual stories, but they certainly do work best as a series and when read in order.
I was intrigued about the Butch/Marissa thing having not read the first book for example, though it did not in the least spoil my enjoyment of Rhage and Mary's story.

I think that J.R Ward describes her characters wonderfully, down to the type of music they like, enabling even the most unimaginative reader to picture the character, a key skill for an avid reader such as myself.

We learn much more about Rhage in this book, about his good lucks and the curse that he has to live with.
We also meet Mary and learn about her life and the challenges that she faces.

The book takes the time to expand on the other members of the brotherhood and various interactions and relationships. This makes you fall even deeper into the world which J.R Ward is describing and crave the next book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the whole series, I would recommend it to anyone. If you enjoy Sherrilyn Kenyon you will love this series.

5 out of 5 stars "Black Dagger Brotherhood" series book 2   June 1, 2008
The second book in JRW's excellent paranormal series centres on Rhage; a vampire warrior required to regularly sate himself with violence or sex to ensure he remains in control of his inner dragon (courtesy of a curse). Yet suddenly he finds himself wanting only one female; a human accidentally caught up in the battle between Vampires and Lessers (soulless immortals); a woman his inner beast also deeply hungers for.

Drained and weary, despite her two years of remission, Mary Luce shows all the symptoms of the cancer's return. It's a stupid time to date; even stupider to become bewitched by the beautiful man she meets, it's crazy that he's a vampire; but the craziest thing of all is falling in love with him when her prognosis is so poor. Trying to shut Rhage out of her life proves impossible even before they get naked together; afterwards Mary hasn't a chance.

I loved the first book in this series and the second "Lover Eternal" is just as entertaining. I'm a huge sucker for any tortured immortal hero; yet whilst JRW's leading men are certainly far rougher around the edges than Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunters, they are definitely as appealing. This author's heroines are just as well fleshed out and likeable; fantastic matches for these fine (very fine) warriors and certainly their equals, be they vampire or human. The action positively rocks throughout and don't get me started on the sex scenes; although I will mention incredibly steamy and beautifully tender. Mary is one lucky girl to end up with a dragon protector who purrs at her touch.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic   May 27, 2008
This was a great follow up to Dark Lover, another sexy Brother and another strong female lead. Rhage is kind of the clown of the BDB so it was good to see his more serious side and see that he more than just the good looking prankster we usually see him as.

5 out of 5 stars Sooo good   March 29, 2008
I found this by chance in my local library. At the time I didn't realise it was part of a series as it was the story was able to stand alone. I was however hooked! The bad news was no others in the library. The good news. Thank goodness for Amazon as I purchased the whole lot, which are great. Am waiting impatiently for the newest edition - Phury's story. The books are exciting, the stories, heros and heroines grip you from the first page of each book. The best part is that each book can stand alone in its own right. More please
