Accurate, easy-to-read, up-to-date, ... brilliant November 29, 2001 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book is a pleasant and informative read if you are interested in lexicography and dictionaries; a must-read if you are a researcher; it doesn't matter whether you have already read Landau's 1984 first edition, they actually complement each other. The present edition is a thoroughly revised version of the first one, and much more than that; it reflects the most significant changes and innovations in lexicography during the last years; I think that the most important additions are the chapters devoted to the use and the importance of corpora in lexicography and the inclusion of the many differences between native speakers' dictionaries and foreign learners' dictionaries, ESL lexicography... I cannot find enough words to describe it, just get it and read it. I am already looking forward to seeing his next one.
