How to Draw Anything

Although easy to read it isn't easy to learn from and can stub out your excitement at drawing when you come across the word "assignments" at the end of every chapter (if your in college, you know what I mean!). These tasks include things like going out and drawing random people and things you see or from magazines. We all know that practise makes perfect but the tasks at time just seem very strange and not something I'd want to do.
The images in these books are for the most part uninteresting and yes i know that the book is "How to draw" but it would have been nice to see some colour as the whole book is in black and white, really not for children (especially as part of the book is on drawing naked people, mostly females).

Saying all this though the book is arranged into nice chapters and has certainly started to teach me how to look better. It wasn't a complete disapointment, but for serouis artists and those already with a solid skill this isn't the book for you.

If you are a complete beginner and do not aspire to fine art, or just want to draw as a bit of fun then get this book.
If however you want to draw 'properly' do not get this! I would recommend 'The Complete Book of Drawing' by Barrington Barber

My mother found this book and was amazed at the price. She is learning to draw portraits, and wanted a book that showed her how to do things step by step, especially with facial features.

Not only does this book provide valuable tips and examples on portraiture, but it also shows you in detail how to draw landscapes, people in general, animals, buildings, and practically everything else. My mum has since created some wonderful pictures just by using this book (different mouth shapes, noses, eyes) and is entirely happy.

After seeing her copy I went and bought my own (I want to improve my drawing of people) and I have to say, it is brilliant. Understandably, the key IS to keep on practising, but at this price you cannot get a better book.

For a complete beginner like myself, I couldn't draw for toffee! This book has inspired me to draw landscapes in a simple to follow manner. My family have been amazed at the ease to which I have taken to this new hobby. Very easy, concise and enthusing narrative really is motivational. I thoroughly recommend this book for people such as me who like things simple!

I bought this book because I am currently learning to draw. This book is aimed at the kind of level you would expect of a toddler, and totally useless for anyone who's at all serious about drawing. The advice is so basic as to be simple common sense, and the illustrations within the book are far from inspiring. Save your money, buy yourself 3 pencils (2h, 3b, and 3b), an eraser, and a pencil sharpener. It will be a more useful use of your money.
