The Perfect Pop Album October 14, 2008 Wow! What an album! Idina, well known for having leading roles in top musicals has a great voice. A Broadway voice, but occasionally sounding like Alanis Morisette. The reason for this is probably to do with the fact she worked with Glen Ballard (Producer of Alanis Morisette's 'Jagged Little Pill' album).
If you love your 'musical' soundtracks (like me), but also enjoy pop music, you'll love this album. Every track on this album is EXCELLENT!
Idina Love September 27, 2008 This album is absolutely fantastic, no matter how much you pay for it (14.99 was what I paid). It has some powerful ballads (Brave) and some more upbeat songs (Gorgeous), and overall it sends out an amazing message, and it is Brilliant. Her voice is extremely strong, and I was not disappointed by this album at all. :)
Great addition to my collection August 31, 2008 'I Stand' is her third solo album and has some of the best ballads from the musicals that she's been in. Great vocalist.
Great talent but too many similar styles of song August 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Stand-out performances in Wicked & Rent have obviously given Idina Menzel a platform from which to launch a genuine recording career but successfully crossing over was always going to be difficult and this album unfortunately isn't going to help her make that leap.
This probably has more to do with the record-buying public and radio stations currently leaning toward anything but good old fashioned pop music which means that if you are going to get massive airplay & sales, you really have to put something strong out there. This album contains a solid selection of strong tracks but there's not a massive amount of difference between the style and quality of the best and worst tracks. Producer and co-writer Glen Ballard has to be one of the greatest talents in his field of the last 25 years but there's just too many tracks that sound like they were produced in the early 90's. There's absolutely nothing wrong with a good power-ballad but when an album consists of only this type of track - it's a problem.
Idina Menzel's voice sounds great, it's full of emotion and doesn't fail to impress and I could happily listen to most of the tracks on this album but in it's entireity it's just too repetitive. Glen Ballard's greatest song-writing achievement in my opinion is Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror" but consider the collection of songs it sat amongst. Dance, rock, funk, ballads ... all mixed into one album. Ok, I guess it's unfair to compare Menzel to of music's greatest ever-talents at his peak but the point I'm trying to make is that if "I Stand" contained a couple of upbeat pop tunes and maybe even an attempt at rock, it could have been a great album and possibly catapulted a worthy entertainer to the heights she deserves.
Great talent, good but not great album.
its wicked! July 19, 2008 idina is known as a rising star of broadway! she is the voice of "rent" and "wicked" and more recently "chess in concert"
her voice is suited to the stage..she delivers an impeccable faultless performance...and this her first major release delivers on all fronts!
every track is well written and delivered with passion..its hard to pick a good track or a bad one! as they are great!
anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing her life..will be stunned by the album! she has a accessable alanis morrisette vibe and it also reminds me of tiffany (yes tiffany "i think we're alone now") latest releases which are stunningly underated!
buy without fear of being disappointed!
