A fantastic read December 10, 2006 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
This book is the reason I have now read so much of Keyes work. I could not put it down. Very easy to read and it had me laughing out loud. A brilliant book for a rainy day.
Not her best November 28, 2006 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I must admit that I'm not a huge fan of this book. It has a good enough plot to sustain your interest throughout but can be a little irritating in places; it leaves no lasting effect on you. While it is fairly enjoyable and not completley cliched, it does remain fairly predictable and so does not really have that extra-something that I first found in Keye's work.
In my opinion it is not her best novel to date but it is worth a look. If you like romantic fiction you will find it enjoyable enough but it doesn't have the extra sparkle that some of this genre do. A good book to pick up if you find yourself with a little free time as it is easy to dip in and out of.
Not the most compelling of her work but it is classic Keyes. I wouldn't recommend this as the first book you read by her but it is worth reading if you are a fan.
It was ok! September 27, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I admit that i hadnt read the review on this book before I bought it! But i really do wish i had! From the very start you knew what would happen! and the fact that everyone had to constantly call her 'Lucy' every time they spoke was annoying! HOWEVER! It did take me a lnog time to read, but if it was that bad i guess i would have stopped! I will read more Marian Keyes books as i do think she is a great author, i just think this book was a little depressing!
Lucy Sullivan is getting on my nerves! August 16, 2006 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Echoing some of the other reviews on here, I would not recommend this book. It's boring, predictable, and it seemed to take me ages to read! The only reason I could bear to finish it was just in case something would happen to make me change my opinion. It didn't. Lucy Sullivan is a irritating character that I just wanted to slap to make her see sense! Whether Marion Keyes created such a character deliberately to annoy her reader, I don't know, but save yourself the frustration!
Not so good start, greatly improving to the end August 2, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
After having read Angels and Sushi for Beginners, I thought I would really like this one too, but I did not like the beginning about the psychic telling Lucy she would get married (I would never go to a psychic myself). I also did not like the large, strange font of my editiion of the book (it is probably different in other editions) - but as I had liked Marian's other books so much, I definitely went on reading. And it was worth it, as it touches very interesting subjects (addiction, love and relationships) with Marian's usual wit and humour.
I would normally give three stars to this one but I just add one more for the end of the book, which -it it was a movie- would have me standing up clapping... Fantastic "chick-lit" ending!
I would not recommend it as a first MK book to read though. Read her other ones first and leave this for later, when you will be better acquainted with her writing. You will enjoy it more then!
