A soldiers story well written June 4, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
In short a really good soldiers point of view of Iraq in 2004. The language, point of view and honesty are not (in my opinion, and I write as someone who has been there) hot air. I really enjoyed the insight into life as a specialist in a good old fashioned infantry company in one of the most challenging of circumstances. There's no whinging or huge political point to make. It's a good read, spotted with humour and offers a nice insight into the personalities and their circumstances. It's good, old fashioned soldiering and leadership of the highest order.
The best account of war you will read. June 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this book on a whim as it was on special offer and ended up reading it through in one go. I litteraly could not put this book down. Other reviewers have covered the content of this book so all I will add is, whatever your view on the Iraq war, there can be no doubting the bravery and professionalism of British and Commonwealth soldiers when asked to do a 'job'. You will not regret buying this book.
sniper one... Hail to the king June 1, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
It has to be said that this is without a shadow of a doubt, the best book i have ever read. sod your fiction war books, this is real and in your face. It's the book's equivalent of a slap in the face. Makes you proud to be British and proud of the British forces that are out there fighting. Well written, in depth look at politics and red tape of army life. Awesome book. Truly awesome.
FANTASTIC May 31, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have read dozens of military history book this has to be the best so far, Fantastic writing and a real eye opener as to what the milkitary are actually involved in overseas in the 21st century. This sort hof action has never ben spoken of on the BBC or similar. I have nothing but admiratin for these men and women if only the public knew more of what some have had to endure during a tour of duty. BUY IT NOW
Most engaging book I've ever read. May 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
At times, reading this book, I kept thinking it was fiction - what these guys went through was just so unimaginable & courageous.
I've never read through a book so fast before - it was just so engaging - I read on the train to and from work and the journeys have never gone so fast...I nearly missed my stop a few times. Very well written, articulately described, and really took you close to the mindset of these soldiers, whose stories were not fully publicised at the time of the events.
"Big respect" to the guys at Cimic - your stories were an inspiring read.
Gimme another book like this please!!
