Bread and cake recipes simple, easy to follow... April 20, 2005 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
Yes, you CAN make your own bread, I've made the brown bread recipe many times now and when you say to people you made it yourself, they are always impressed! The cakes are wonderful too, using Mascarponi cheese as a filling is a great idea, I've stopped using cream and...the coconut cake, oh my, it takes time but is so very, very good...!! Highly recommended especially for beginners!
This book taught me EVERYTHING about cooking January 16, 2003 22 out of 24 found this review helpful
I won't list all the brilliant recepies it has and the success it made for home meals and when guests came! Just want to share this very indicative story: my mother's rice has almost international fame and whenever I wanted to make rice she would always say that she will make it for me! Now, after Delia introduced me to a simple secret on how to make rice - everyone is saying "just like your mother's rice." Simple descriptions, lists of ingredients, instructions on how to go about cooking, excellent photos for every meal, I have given away all my other cookbooks!
Excellent!!! February 11, 2002 30 out of 31 found this review helpful
Being a 34- year old mother of two who loves cooking,I always classified myself as "knowing how to cook". Having read Delia's "How to cook" made me realise that I did not have proper knowledge of even the basics. She is absolutely great and I really enjoyed for the first time eating home-made bread, omellettes and some other simple, easy to prepare dishes. It was the best value for money for any of the cookery books I bought so far.
A good book for beginners February 11, 2002 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
this book gives detailed explanations and is very easy to follow. The recipes are very basic and good enough for a teenager to start with aswell as someone like me who is only beginning. I shall be buying book 2 soon. I liked book 1 very much.

This book is fantastic for going back to basics. I didn't realise how bad my cooking was until started using the tips in this book. I didn't know potatoes were supposed to have flavour.
