Descriptive genius.....now where did I leave my goggles? July 10, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
"Wild Swim" is a must have book for water lovers everywhere!
If you love the outdoor life and have a sense of adventure, you will discover many stunning swimming spots that will inspire you and make you feel alive. If, on the other hand you prefer a more sedentary lifestyle, the book is worth having simply to enjoy Kate Rew's beautiful descriptions and amusing anecdotes of her trips around the UK in search of the perfect swim.
Dominick Tyler's photography is stunning and compliments the text well, inspiring the reader to dig out the goggles (togs optional) and get out there. Unlike most guide books this one really is worth reading cover to cover.
A beautiful book June 30, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
After reading that 'Wild Swim' was the book of the week in the Mail on Sunday I bought it. It has stunning photography and carries fascinating desiptions of each location. Kate Rew's appreciation of the nature around her on the trips, especially to the rivers and sea, is profound. I felt so envigorated and inspired that I could not wait to follow up one of the swims locally. With over 300 places to visit there is something for everyone, the locations are varied and unusual. Open any page and you will be enthralled, whether you are a swimmer or not.
An outdoor swimming treasure June 25, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was delighted to receive this book for Fathers Day and have already swam in two locations previously not known to me. The outdoor pool at Nantwich, whilst not a truly "Wild Swim" is a fantastic spot, fresh and deep in a lovely setting with easy carparking. The all-year round wild swimming, sometimes clad in triathlon wetsuits, looks more demanding but the pleasure of Kate, Dominick and companions is evident on each page of the book and I am tempted. The summary paragraphs after each location are particularly useful and are influencing my summer plans. Detailed location maps would be useful but with the web and Kate's directions it does not look difficult to identify the swimming spots. In short this is an excellent book, both the prose and the photography, for quiet time reading (preferably outside in the sun) for reference and to share with friends and family. This is a book that will travel with you, brighten a difficult day and distract you if you let it. I dare you not to be tempted by an outdoor dip having read it. As per the cover "Go on. Dive in" - this is an outdoor swimming tresure.
Wild Swim June 25, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Bought Wild Swim on the back of an article in the Observer written by Kate Rew. Haven't yet had a chance to try out any of the recommended swims but am busily planning my summer around some of the swims listed in this beautiful book. Both the text and the photographs combine to make this book want this reader to do nothing but down tools and explore the swims listed.

This book is a wonderfully written and stunningly presented and produced but is also very practical and easy to use. It has opened up a whole new dimension of the countryside for me and my family.
